Christmas Skipton Golf Club Meal. The Natter thanked Mike and Val Payne for arranging yet another very successful January Lunch. The food and service is exceptionally good value for the money.
MG Car Club 2020 Events
Awards Lunch – Sunday 23rd March. The 6 Pictures for the Awards Lunch Picture Competition, at the Bridge Hotel were selected. Thank you everyone who submitted a picture for the Comp. It is always difficult to select 6, there were some real crackers, so thanks for taking them, please keep doing so; you could be the winning Photographer!
I look forward to seeing the North Yorkshire attendees on Sunday.
March Meal Natter, Thursday 12th March. Thank you for your completed Menu’s. If your name is not mentioned below, sorry you are not booked to attend. If you wish to join us at the Tempest, please Contact me as soon as possible, so you may complete a Menu sheet:

That’s Christmas 2019 finished!
Sorry, but I need to remind you that I need 24 hours’ notice, if you can’t attend the booked meal, so we won’t be charged by the Tempest. I need to know by Wednesday 11th March, if circumstances prevent you attending, otherwise you will receive a bill for a meal you have not had.
MG Car Club Yorkshire Centre AGM. Tuesday 17th March. At the Star Roberttown. I will be running the show this year and as a tempter to get all Natter Members to attend, you get a free Pie and Peas (with Mint Sauce) Supper and very nice they are. I must let David Copeman know our final numbers attending, so please confirm your attendance to me at our March Natter on the 12th March PLEASE.
Daffodil Run Sunday 19th April. Our friends at South Yorkshire are putting on another Run. Last year gave us a great run round south Yorkshire and Derbyshire. Entries now being taken. See: wwwmgccyorkshirecentre.co.uk
Drive it Day – Sunday 26th April. We only have 3 cars booked on this run (To be advised) is something better on offer I wonder? Again the 24/39 Group will be suggesting a meeting venue. Details to be advised.
Wolds Way Silver Jubilee Run Sunday 10th May. This year celebrates 25 years of this great run. If you want to see what a large sky looks like and view fabulous views and sights, the Wolds Way certainly shows you. Again entry forms on: wwwmgccyorkshirecentre.co.uk.
Heartbeat Run Sunday 12th July. The Vale of York Natter are putting on a new run this year, but still finishing at The Inn on the Moor, Goathland, for end of run food. A part of the Country I don’t know well. Last year’s run was fabulous. So if you can attend, please do, you won’t be disappointed.
Newby Hall 19th July. Paul Croft to Co-Ordinate the Yorkshire Entries, along with Noel Linford for the Tyne Tees Centre. Pauls advised that this is NOT a MG Car Club Event. Payment is to the Newby Hall Organisers. Cars to be 1979 or older. Entry is £10 per Car and the Closing Date is the 10th June 2020. Paul thinks places will be snapped up, so ‘Book early’.
Compass Run – 2nd August. This will be to the lovely Market Town of Richmond. We have 10 people and 6 cars interested to date. Details to follow.
Burley Classic Car Show Sunday 23rd August. My grateful thanks to Granville and Paul who corrected me for giving you a wrong date at the Natter. The Show is definitely Sunday 23rd August. We have 7 MG’s booked on to date. I wish this year to make it an MG event. Any additional none MG Cars to be kept outside of the MGCC Yorkshire Centre Flags. My reason is I’m hoping we are considered for the award ‘Car Club Stand of the Show’.
Dales Run Sunday 30th August. This year is the 15th year of Paul and Rosemary has put this great event on. It may be their last year, I certainly hope not. It’s our chance for the North Yorkshire Natter to shine. I hope you are busy collecting for donated Raffle Prizes!
90 Years of the MG Car Club Run. Our friends at the 24/39 Group have invited us to join them on a Run/Lunch Event, to celebrate this special time. It will be either Sat 10th or Sun 11th October. Full details to follow from the Group. 5 cars and 9 Members have shown interest to date.
MGCC North Yorkshire Natter Events. For us to be able to continue in being educated and entertained at our Natter Meetings, Paul & Rosemary Croft along with Jeff Marsden attended the January MGCC Yorkshire Centre Committee Meeting. Jeff kindly explained the VAT and Funding issues the Yorkshire Centre experiences, by our Treasurer Stephen Dobson.
So Jeff explained how this affects us and how Steve Dobson is helping with financial matters that affect the MG Car Club Head Office at Kimber House.
So Charity Donations and Funds need to be accounted correctly for Club, VAT and HMRC. We agreed that we would collect £1 per Member at each Natter (No Raffle and Prize) to go in a fund that pays for the continued Natter Night Entertainment. This may have to be looked at, as the year continues.
October Natter: Kate Marsden has arranged for the Glusburn & Crosshills Gardening Society to give us a talk in October. They will charge travelling expenses and requested we make a Charity Donation (Yorkshire Air Ambulance?)
Stephen Clegg (Cleggy): Many North Yorkshire Members use Steve for repair’s and body work, as his excellence beats many. He has decided to change direction and start selling cars, presumably Classics. Sad that his business plans did not realise a profit for him repairing classics, but hopefully selling them will be more beneficial. The current repair side of the business will end as the 29th February.
MGCC North Yorkshire Charities: Our Members would again like to support the Yorkshire Air Ambulance in its excellent endeavours to save life. A second Charity we would like to support, with our End of Season Run, would be the ‘Cancer Support Centre in Bradford’ as recommended by Rosemary Croft. We all know someone who has suffered with cancer, the scourge of society. So it would be nice to support this worthwhile local charity.
Rock & Roll Night 6th March: To be held at the Victoria Hall, Keighley. Featuring ‘Eddie Earthquake and the Tremors’. Any interested parties, to contact Paul Croft urgently.
MGCC North Yorkshire Club Member News: Some good News: Granville has received the all clear from his Consultant. However, he will be given regular checks. Sandra Poole is much better after time in Hospital with a nasty Kidney infection. Still taking things easy and getting Bill to run round after her, so great news that Bill is feeling he is in good form. Dennis Greenwood is being looked after my Joan; I understand he has good and bad days. Let’s hope they are mainly good. Sad news that Pete Redman is more bed bound at this time. I intend once I know what is happening with Miriam to visit the Redman’s and Greenwoods. Just sorry that our family issues stopped us from doing this earlier. Miriam, I’m pleased to report that she had some good news on Tuesday; her infection levels had come down from 13 to 9. We will have to keep everything crossed, because she finishes her antibiotics this weekend, so it is hoped the infection levels stay down, until our next visit to Harrogate Hospital on Wednesday the 4th March. Alan Dakeyne had a bad fall in January and was unable to attend Skipton Golf Club. I’m delighted that he is attending the Awards Lunch with Shirley at the weekend.
May I wish ALL our members a healthier year.
2020 MG Calendar. Richard Green kindly donated an MG calendar, which went for £10 to the highest bidder. The cash was given to Kate to go into the Air Ambulance Funds.
Happy MG’ing Colin
