North – Jeff Marsden
Robin and Anne Askew organised a Pride of Ownership meeting at the Tempest and was
Slightly different in that owners were asked questions about their cars and had to show the car’s tool kit. The competition was won by Jeff & Kate Marsden with their 1994 RV8 and the Trophy and prize were presented by Robin. There followed a general social natter and run down of forthcoming events.
East – Jill Thornton
It turned out to be the right decision to postpone the POO until July . It was a lovely evening and a good turnout. Brilliant to see three new[to our Natter] cars on display.
Joint 1st in Class 1 were Jill Thornton [MGB Roadster] and Nick Denham [MGB GT]
Class 2 Steve Loore [MG Metro] , Class 3 Dave Rowe [MG F], Class 4 June Reid [MG HS]
And Best in Show Simon Denham [MG Magnette]
There will be a quiz at the September Natter and a guest speaker [local historian Dennis Chapman] at the October Natter
Vale Of York – James Thornborough.
The VoY Natter presented their cars for the annual Pride of Ownership. The pub staff were given the responsibility of choosing the top 3 cars. It was a straight, fair contest, As members dined and chatted, the top three positions were identified with Vale of York certificates placed on the windscreens. In total there was s sweep of 10 cars to choose from, looking to all the world like a mixed age Monte Carlo race grid start. The order of merit was: 1. Andrew Morton with his lustrous red 1934 PA, 2. Chris & Liz Kettle with their fine MGA, and 3. Ken & Julie Cothliff wth ‘Marmalade’ , a well travelled MGB. One 4 year old boy was very taken with ‘Marmalade’\ because of a cuddly bear named Morris adorning the dashboard. A new member for the future !
Proud winning owners pictured.
South – Rob Mitchell
A good turn out this month despite the start of the holiday season, with events completed and a
Number still to run. At the beginning of the month, several members gathered for the three day Fat Lamb trip in Cumbria.
A big thank you to Paul Bonsall of the Fat Lamb for his excellent accommodation, evening meals, and organising trips covering scenic and challenging roads, and even a turn at the helm on the ‘Gondola’ a steam ship on Lake Coniston, famous for Donald Campbell’s water speed attempt. On the final day, drivers were given a rest and a 1959 Bristol Lowdekka coach was requisitioned [thank you to Cumbria Classic Coaches] for a return trip to Barnard Castle.
Several more runs, events and shows are in the calendar ahead, both local and distant, so please get in touch for details.
At this month’s Natter, we also welcomed James Cassells and his MG TF160
