North – Jeff Marsden
Our last natter held on 8th August was just a general get-together. Several members were absent due to holidays, but members chatted about the EEOTY and Hebden Bridge Classic Weekend where Jeff Marsden won the regularity event and Bill Poole won best in class with his MGA Roadster, respectively . There was the usual reminder of up-coming events including that of our September meeting when we will have a speaker
East – Jill Thornton
It is with great sadness that I write of the passing of Paul Savoury at the end of July. Paul was a lovely chap and will be greatly missed. Together with his co-pilot wife Marilyn , the couple were the only members to have attended every Wolds Way Run since it’s inception.
Paul enjoyed competitively driving his MG’s , auto testing, hill climbing and sprinting. Our thoughts are with Marilyn and family at this sad time.
At the Compass Run destination York Farming Museum, a presentation was made to ‘Deg’ and Jill Burton of Maple Garage Sproatley, by Terry Hartley, representing the MG100 Cavalcade, and East Natter Leader Chris Moore, in appreciation of them hosting the finish point of the second Yorkshire leg of the Cavalcade, and their long term support of MG CC East Yorkshire.
We have a guest speaker at the October Natter, local historian Dennis Chapman, with another interesting topic for us .
Vale Of York – James Thornborough.
The Blue Bell Inn in Arkendale is the new venue for the VoY Natter. The Blue Bell proved a big hit with 28 members attending, and very positive reviews. Two members received special mention:
Ken Cothliff celebrating his 80th birthday. Ken started the VoY Natter and continues to be a stalwart. And
Robert Ingham who is returning to Australia after spending most summers in England. Robert helped establish the MGF Register. Both members were warmly congratulated for their MGCC contributions. The VoY Natter is growing from strength to strength. Long may it continue
South – Rob Mitchell
Two major ‘runs’ were attended in August – both thoroughly enjoyed by both drivers and passengers. The Compass Run in early August saw each MGCC Yorkshire group set off on their own devised routes to the Museum York finish point. Thank you to Mike Breedon for setting the
SY route from Sherburn Aero Club , near Leeds.
A fortnight later, this year’s Dales Run one again took in this corner of Yorkshire to enjoy the
Scenery, history, visitor attractions , and of course food ! A particular historical site along the 134 mile route, was the view of Winston Bridge to appreciate the bravado of the pilot who once flew a Spitfire under the bridge on the river Tees. Than you to the organisers and all those who contributed to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance charity on the day.
This evening’s Natter group discussed up-coming runs, events and shows – always many in the weeks and months ahead . Please get in touch or see MGCC website for details
West – David Copeman
A good attendance in August for the annual Pride of Ownership . Robert Dickinson’s MGBGT was unanimously voted Best Car. The Compass Run finished at the Farming Museum York, where 31 MG’s ranging from the Thirties to the latest MG3, and their owners, had a very enjoyable afternoon, a collection on entry raised £150 which was donated to the Museum.
