North – Stephen Coltman

An unusually low turn out of members for our May Natter, but those who attended did have a lively [and not necessarily MG related !] discussion.

Two events this month were enjoyed by a number of NY members – the Wolds Way Run in glorious weather on Sunday 11th May and  we joined the Mercedes Benz Club Yorkshire region the following Sunday at the Open Gardens and Classic Car Gathering in Little Ouseburn, a picturesque village between Harrogate and York. 12 gardens were open to the public , as was the village hall for refreshments. Just a shame that the weather decided to have an ‘off day’ , despite a favourable forecast .

East – Jill Thornton

May natter was spent finalising arrangements for the Wolds Way Run which is being covered by a

seperate report. Thanks go to all involved.

The May evening social event [first of the year] had an amazing turnout , 17 cars enjoying a very pleasant 30 odd mile run on some interesting and somewhat bouncy country roads , finishing at the Red Hawk pub in Brough, who did an amazing job feeding 32 of us !

Pride of ownership will take place at the July Natter, Thursday 10th July , and the July evening social run is on the very LAST Thursday – the 31st. Again leaving from the Fire Station car park in Beverley no later than 7pm.

Vale of York – James Thornborough

The Voy Natter marked the VE80 anniversary on May 8th with a run of 80 miles, using a history route that revealed the remarkable legacy of the Royal Canadian Air Force [RCAF] during WW2. The route had a parade photo of participant MGs taken at Allerton Park Castle, which served as the HQ for the Canadian Air Force in WW2. Along the way, members were directed to blue history plaques, memorials, surviving airfields, runways and infrastructure attributed to the brave service of the RCAF. Most poignant of all was a memorial at Tholthorpe Village Green established by the founder of the VoY Natter, Ken Cothliff. Ken’s father lost his life in WW2 serving the RCAF, while he was still in his mother’s womb. Ken honours the sacrifice of his father with a Maple tree and a plaque. God bless their sacrifice.

South – Rob Mitchell

Natter members reflected on recent events including the Wolds Way Run which was thoroughly

enjoyed by all . Another day out in glorious sunshine and amazing scenery. Thanks to our friends

and neighbours in the ‘East’ for organising the Run . Some members made a long weekend of the event which is always an option.

South will hold it’s ‘Pride of Ownership’ at our next Natter on the 25th of June . So as we dust down our polishing cloths and experiment with the latest available cleaning / waxing products, we again request good weather and wish good luck to everyone .

We are still in the early days of the summer season, so other events are in the pipeline both close

to home and within a couple of hours drive from our SY base. This includes the Dales Run on the

17th of August which will start and end in Wetherby. Please get in touch for more information and

entry details – for any event
