North – Stephen Coltman

We welcomed Graham Read, a Formula 1 correspondent, to our November Natter, who gave

members a very interesting talk about British F1 drivers from the 1950’s to the preset day.

Thanks were also given to Paul and Rosemary Croft, who organised our very enjoyable End of  Season Run on Saturday 18th October.

28 members attended our annual pre-Christmas Lunch at Keighley Golf Club on 23rd November.

Although a wet day, at least we didn’t have to run the gauntlet of snow and floods this year !

East – Jill Thornton

Had a lovely time at the East Yorkshire lunch and run early in December at the Cave Castle Hotel.

Thanks to June and Tony Reid for organising it. Thanks also to Ray Snowley for yet another great run.

The Natter this month ran the annual Scalextric challenge ! After a slight mishap with the track involving a Bacardi and Coke, competition was fierce ! Winner was Peter May [despite me incorrectly trying to eliminate him in the first round !] Runner up David Rowe.

Our January Natter will see our usual meeting to arrange volunteers and ideas for 2026 events.

Vale of York – James Thornborough

The Vale of York Natter Xmas Lunch was a joyous festive celebration. Had there been a Xmas sparkle competition, there would have been many deserving entries.

The end of a year does reflect on happy times, but also sad times. In October our dear friend Anne Ogden passed away from Motor Neurone Disease. Anne was laid to rest at St Mary’s Church Thirsk on December 2nd, the very same church where she wed Peter Ogden, and where her 3 children were christened. It was a beautiful service remembering a beautiful soul. The eulogies from the 3 children spoke volumes about the love invested and shared.

MND took Anne quickly. Like Rob Burrows, Anne wore a smile to the end. In support of the MND Association, the VoY Natter made a heartfelt donation , which we hope will ease the suffering of those diagnosed with MND. Bless you Anne, we will miss you and fondly remember your kind, gentle, happy, nature. A beautiful soul.

We trust everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year break and are all prepared for 2026.

Despite a number of Natter members recovering from, or inflicting various skeletal related ailments

over the period, a good number managed to see off 2025 with a fabulous Christmas meal and saw
in 2026 by attending the traditional first-run-of-the-year: the Chilly Willy Run on the 4th January.

Just a reminder – we meet every fourth Wednesday of the month. Please come and give us a visit.

The 25th of February will probably be the next date for your diary when you read this . See you at 7pm at ‘The Old Post Office’ S75 4DE.

As mentioned in the last edition of SafetyFast, we now have a date [12th April] for the 2026

Daffodil Run. A full advert can be found within this edition, so please register your place as soon as possible. As can be seen, this year’s theme is ‘steam’ and promises to be a great day out .
