July’s Natter featured our annual Pride of Ownership evening, kindly organised by
Robin and Ann Askew, which for once was blessed with glorious weather enabling
most who attended to arrive with hoods down. All the cars were beautifully turned
out, and the winners for Presentation were , Colin and Miriam Brear with their 2004
MG SVX. Bill Poole was runner-up with his 1955 MGA. There were also two other
parts to the contest – ‘which MG would you most like to drive home ?’ – again won
by Colin and Miriam, with Jeff and Kate Marsden as runners-up with their 1996
RV8, and ‘Pet Names’ for members’ cars, the favourite being ‘Rosie Roadster’ for
Dale and Ann Eferney’s red MGB.
Upcoming events for August include the Compass Run on the 3rd plus the Dales Run
and Burley in Wharfedale Classic Car Show – both on the 17th. Here’s hoping this
exceptional summer hasn’t given up on us by then !
East – Jill Thornton
We held our annual self-judged Pride of Ownership at the July Natter. It was a lower turnout
due to holidays, but those who attended made a big effort. Winners were :
Jill & Greg Thornton MG B Roadster, Chris & Steve Moore MG Metro, Ray Snowley MG TF 160,
Tony & June Reid MG Motor HS . Overall winner Steve & Wendy Pountney MG SVR.
Thank you to Nicky & David Rowe for providing us with a great social run and end venue for July.
The final evening social run of this season is Thursday 28th August. As usual setting off from the School Lane car park behind Beverley Fire Station. Last car off no later than 7pm. This is a very special one as our Natter Leader Christine Moore will be celebrating a milestone birthday.
Vale of York – James Thornborough
Excellent turnout for the July Vale of York Natter with 29 attending, of which 4 were new faces. Given it is peak classic car season, there was plenty to offer members over the summer, from the
MGCC calendar. Not content with MGCC events, members are spoilt with classic car community events across the beautiful Yorkshire region. While dates do overlap from time to time, it’s only right that members can choose which events to support. The star MGCC events over June/July supported by members included: MGC Day, MGA 70, MGF 30, and the BL Gaydon Show.
South – Rob Mitchell
Discussions at this month’s Natter centred on a very wet MGF30 event and a hopefully very dry
upcoming series of events, namely the Compass Run on 3rd August and the Dales Run on the 17th August, the latter of which is being co-organised with our colleagues in the East. More details and
reports on these will appear next month.
Despite the rain, MGF30 was a good day out and it was great to see so many Fs and Tfs all lined up in the car park at The British Motor Museum in Gaydon. Personally speaking, it was a chance to ‘test’ my nearly-new roof and happy to report that at least it leaks much less than the old one !
Following the August Runs, we then look forward to MG Fest North on 6-7th Sept at Croft Circuit.
The Club website is the best place to see future events; both Yorkshire based and country wide and the calendar now stretches into 2026 !
