Chairman’s Chat – by David Copeman

I would like to thank the 11 Yorkshire Centre volunteers who gave their time to help make the MGFest North a success over the weekend 6th-7th October at Croft Circuit, Darlington.

Over the weekend they helped with parking, arena assembly, the help desk, carkana, carboot, road runs, and the marquee entertainment.

Their weekend started on the Friday helping set up and finished late on the Sunday after everyone had left, clearing up.

You all know who you are – thanks once again.

North – Stephen Coltman

Mike Payne kindly provided us with a Yorkshire themed quiz for our August Natter, which

proved very enjoyable. Winners were Robin and Ann Askew who were presented with a

Yorkshire Parkin Pig, and runners up were Stephen and Andrea Coltman who received

Yorkshire Puddings !

Several members attended MG Fest North at Croft over the weekend of 6th-7th September.

Forthcoming events include the Alan Dakeyne / MGCC 95th Anniversary Run on Saturday

11th October and North Yorkshire branch’s End of Season Run the following Saturday.

East – Jill Thornton

Where has the year gone ! The September Natter was well attended, we discussed past and future events.Around 43 cars attended the Yorkshire Dales’ Run – well done Ray. 10 Yorkshire members

volunteered at MG Fest and it sounds as if they all went above and beyond, but had a great time too.

Foreman’s Run welcomed 21 cars and fortunately the weather held off.

We are once again going to be entertained by local historian Dennis Chapman at the November Natter , the subject this time is ‘When Hitler’s Doodlebugs landed on East Yorkshire’! We will also be running a raffle , so would e grateful for any prizes. December Natter will once again run the

annual Scalextric Challenge.

Vale of York – James Thornborough

The Vale of York Natter was treated to a fabulous Dales scenery trip, organised by members

Phil King, Gary Simpson, and their respective wives, Caroline and Cheryl. The pre-planned route was billed as a brewery run, because it ended at the Theakston Brewery in Masham. The run started from the Devonshire Arms, Bolton Abbey, winding it’s way to Pateley Bridge, before carrying on to Masham. Those attending learnt that the Theakston Brewery was founded in 1827, and retains it’s 200 year old gravity process. The staff at the brewey pulled out all the stops with a tour of the brewey, followed by exclusive access to the visitors centre pub section. If you have followed the Channel 4 series ‘Our Yorkshire Shop’ covering the restoration of Verity & Peacock in Masham, you wil have seen the very well built ‘cooper’ who makes and restores the barrels used by the brewery. The youngest members were excited when they saw the ‘ccoper’ , not because he runs one of only two ‘in-house’ cooperages in the country, nor because of his physique, rathet because he is a favourite character on Goggle Box . Modern times hey !

South – Rob Mitchell

Discussions at this time of year are inevitably more about recently attended events – an of course

looking forward to what’s in the calender for next year .So, everyone seemed to enjoy MGFest and

it was good to be seen and chat to other fellow MG owners, off track, and take in some exciting on-

track racing.

Day 1 actually coincided with the return of those 10 cars that participated in the week-long Tour of

Ireland. Thanks to Geoff Norcliffe for his masterful organisation and we now look forward to the

itinerary for the 2026 ‘Far East’ Tour – already in planning stage.

Plans and recces are also underway for the Drve-it-Day and Daffodil Runs. More details will be

released in due course , so watch this space .

If you have not yet put your name down for this year’s Christmas Meal, please let Sue Herbert

know promptly. It will be held at the Just Thai Restaurant on Saturday 6th December.
