Natter News

Vale of York-Ken Cothliff

Hi Folks,

We had a great attendance at our first Natter of the year – thanks to all of you for rolling up, and especially to David and Tim who came in their MGs. Apologies from Rob Ingram and Colin Brear. We welcomed new member of the Natter; Keith Jackson from Boston Spa who has an MG PA.

First my announcement – I will be giving up my role as Natter Leader in 2021. It will have been five years of the Natter by then, and I feel that it would be time for the Members to take more control. In the meantime, if anyone could step up and be my Deputy; there are probabilities I might not make some dates this year. Please drop me an email if you can help. It’s not a hard job – just a few announcements at the meeting of forthcoming dates, and afterwards compiling this report and an abbreviated one for Safety Fast.

Forthcoming dates –    1 April – Daffodil Run starting at McDonalds, Clifton Moor, York

13 May – Wolds Way Run

20 May – Canada Run – around airfields in Vale of York

4/5 Aug – Croft Historic Festival

26 Aug – Dales Run

There is a new MG/Classic car run on 17 March in our Centre area, an East Yorkshire area run around the east coast (Paull, Kilnsea, and Hornsea etc.) Starting at 2pm Maple Garage, Sproatley and finishing at Brandesburton at a car friendly pub. No pre-registration required.

I gave details of the Tyne Tees area runs this year – especially the end of Season event celebrating 50 years of the Natter on 14 October Includes dinner and MG show at Alnwick Castle. More details later in the year and other runs next month.

Canada Run – Although the run itself is well mapped out we will need members to help both checking the run a week or so beforehand, and marshalling vehicles in the Masons Car Park at the beginning. I am planning for the run to be finished at the Anchor, Whixley which has an all-day carvery, and big car park.

Rob Lowery brought a beautiful framed print of a sectioned MG TD – he had been given it by Rita Bentley, wife a late TD owner to raise funds of the MGCC/VoY Natter. Keith bought it for the worthy sum of £50 which is going into our funds. Thank you Keith.

David Copeman brought my attention to the fact that we do not complete an attendance log at the Natter. We should do this to collect members points for an annual Natter trophy. I know we haven’t even got a trophy, but I’m told the East Yorkshire Natter have trophies to spare!  This idea was brought in by the MGCC, because of the reducing number of MGCC members in competitive events and to confirm those attending are in the MGCC. Your thoughts on this?

Finally, confirmation of Natter Dates for 2018 – 15 March, 19 April, 17 May, 21 June, 19 July,

16 August, 20 September, 18 October, 15 November, 20 December (Xmas Party).

Happy Driving!
