MGCC YORKSHIRE CENTRE

END of October 2023 All Natter Notes.

24/39 Group – Terry Hartley 14 October saw the Group’s anniversary run renamed in memory of our former President, Alan Dakeyne, as the Alan Dakeyne MGCC 93rd Anniversary Run. The route, provided by Keith Jackson, took in the quieter roads through Wike, Otley. Fewston and Kirkby Overblow before returning to the Scotts Arms, Sicklinghall for a sociable lunch gathering. The event saw 22 cars ranging from a 1932 MG F1 to a 2006 MG TF taking part including Alan’s 1940 MG VA tourer ably driven by his sons Christopher and Jonathan with Shirley as passenger. The day was a huge success with plenty of sunshine welcomed by the open topped cars and occupants.

East – Jill Thornton  It was a quiet Natter in October so we postponed the quiz I had organised until November. Hopefully the weather will be kind for our Christmas lunch and run on Sunday 3rd December.  Thanks to the Bensons once again for organising. As usual at the January Natter we will look for volunteers to organise the summer evening social runs and other EY events, attendance would be appreciated 8pm prompt. Wishing everyone has a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!

North – Jeff Allam  The last Natter meeting, held at the Tempest Arms was a talk on astronomy, in particular the Middlesborough Meteorite, by Martin Lunn, MBE.  He was an exceptional speaker with a great depth of knowledge about his subject and this particular aspect was fascinating. Colin Brear informed the congregation that he was no longer able or willing to continue as leader, he has after all done it for an extra year, so the NY natter now has the unenviable task of trying to find a new co-ordinator! Like most clubs and organisations there is not a queue of volunteers so it will be either a press gang or lateral thinking exercise. Our November meeting will be a games night organised by Mike and Val Payne.

Vale of York – James Thornborough A good turn-out for October with attention turning to Christmas plans. The Natter welcomed two new members being partners Lisa Quinn and Ronnie Lawson. There was excellent feedback on the MGCC 93rd Anniversary Run, which was dedicated to the late Yorkshire Centre President Alan Dakeyne. The gods offered wonderful weather for a spectacular driving route.

South – Mike Breedon After a busy two months for South members, October seemed like time to relax and reflect on a busy year for our members in 2023. Two major events put together, for the MGCC Yorkshire Centre, Daffodil and Dales Runs, a few days at the Fat Lamb, a week on tour, Drive it Day and Compass Run routes established, all events prepared by the enthusiastic South Natter Members. I joined the 24/39 Group on 14th for a great day out on the Alan Dakeyne MGCC 93rd Anniversary Run in excellent weather thanks to Terry Hartley.

West – David Copeman We joined members from several centre natters on the Alan Dakeyne MGCC 93rd Anniversary Run organised by Terry Hartley and members of the 24/39 Group, 22 cars including Alan’s distinct VA Tourer crewed by his sons Christopher and Jonathan accompanied by Shirley. An excellent 50 mile route in fine weather finishing back at the Scotts Arms for lunch.
