MGCC YORKSHIRE CENTRE
END of February 2024 All Natter Notes.
West – David Copeman The February high lite was the Awards Lunch, after the Awards presentation’s the Centre AGM (Photographs on the Gallery page) took place a great move forwards after having previous Zoom AGM’s since covid. Eric Batchelor was awarded the Paragon Trophy for once again manning the centre stand at Silverstone all weekend. Colin Brear the centre chairman stood down after 5 years, I once again took up the role 18years after becoming centre chairman for the first time.
North – Jeff Marsden Not a lot to report regarding the February Natter as the snow caused cancellation of the meeting and, our venue managers sent most of their staff home at 3pm!
The Natter WhatsApp group has been busy though with details of the MG100 cavalcade and we expect 6 cars to do the leg from Richmond to Harrogate. The evening of the 9th May coincides with our Natter night so no-one has come forward for that leg, especially as it’s the Wolds Way run a few days later.
South – Mike Breedon Well done Malcolm and Denise Perry who were awarded the Airedale Trophy at the annual awards Dinner and AGM for their outstanding contribution to the MGCC Yorkshire Centre for their work on the Daffodil Run and Dales Run, both events raised money for chosen charities. Norrie & Karen McCredie were awarded the Stross trophy as the South Natter Enthusiasts for the Drive It day run and support to other events. Ted & Debrah Fergusson were awarded the Natter Leaders Choice Trophy for their support throughout 2023. For 2024, Keith Pinder is working on on the Dales Run to start from Ripon on 18 August 2024. Mike Breedon stood down as South Natter Leader the post taken up by Stephen Dobson from 1 March 2024.
Vale of York – James Thornborough The VoY Natter attendance goes from strength to strength with 26 attending the February lunch time meeting at the Bay Horse Inn Goldsborough. The Natter welcomed two new members being Chris & Liz Kettle who will soon be enjoying a 140 bhp MGA. You can guess that this is no ordinary MGA. The MGA was sourced from Canada, and is currently in the very capable hands of David Eales of Oselli Engineering receiving some very desirable upgrades. Member are looking forward to the event calendar for 2024. Honest open conversations are being had over the challenges facing the classic car community across all stakeholders, in particular the MGCC. The more dynamic the risks the more innovation is required. Innovation is the mother of invention, and right now the MGCC is having to reinvent itself.
East – Jill Thornton February Natter was a bit quiet, due probably to the horrendous weather so we took the opportunity to talk through some of the upcoming events. Make sure to check on the calendar of events. Drive it day will once again be hosted by Foremans on Sunday 21st April. The Cavalcade is travelling through our region on Friday 10th May, the Woldsway Run is Sunday 12th May so a busy time for East Yorkshire. Three members have kindly come forward to offer sponsorship for this event, many thanks. It has been decided that the May, June, July and August evening social runs will this year start from the School Lane carpark in Beverley, HU17 9LS, free parking after 6pm, last car off by 7pm, on the 4th Thursday of the month as we have exhausted most routes from the Humber Bridge carpark!
