MGCC YORKSHIRE CENTRE

END of August 2023 All Natter Notes.

Alan Dakeyne; Several members from all the MGCC Yorkshire Centre Natters supported Centre President Alan Dakeyne’s funeral on 10th August, Alan was such a well-known and like individual that he will be sorely missed by many.

North – Jeff Marsden The traffic on Thursday 10th seemed particularly heavy resulting in a late start for our meeting at the Tempest Arms. Ken Cothliffe gave an interesting illustrated talk about his and Julie’s trip round the world.  A better definition would probably have been a world-wide tour of museums, most of which were those containing aircraft!  Very interesting none the less and an enviable experience. The talk was followed by the diary of future events from Colin Brear. Our Natter met at Hardfield Farm for the social BBQ on 29th August. Unfortunately, the weather was disappointing so cooking was in the barn and food consumed in the house.  The Lancaster flypast was absolutely on time but was un-noticed by a few revellers.

Vale of York – James Thornborough July 30th was a double bill event. Some members joined the Compass Run to Duncombe Park near Helmsley, while others attended a charity fundraiser at Ripon Racecourse, in aid of Guide Dogs for the Blind. Through the sale of classic car memorabilia, books and model cars etc, a sum of £290 was raised. The Guide Dogs volunteers were delighted, as was the Natter. The Ripon Racecourse event had the added bonus of attracting two new members, Mark & Helen Hughes, who promptly joined the August Natter in their Nightfire Red MG RV8

South – Mike Breedon and David Gillingham supported the MGCC V8 Register’s V8 50 event at The British Motor Museum, Gaydon, on the 19 & 20 which had a really good turn out and proved to be a great 2 days. Several members went to the Burley Classic Car show for a great day out. One of MGCC Yorkshire Centre’s main events of 2023, the Dales Run, was administered again by the SY Natter on 27 August and attracted 63 entrants all packed “neatly” into the Buck Inn, Buckden car park start point! A route of 100 miles around some of the finest Yorkshire Dales roads and scenery on a mainly a bright Bank Holiday Sunday, which seems to have gone down well. Donations were taken in support of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance once again on this event. Next month will be the Natters own Tour organised by Geof Norcliffe and Keith Pinder in the Scottish Borders and Northumberland.

West – David Copeman Craig Sands came along to the July meeting enquiring about MGTF’s and going away with a membership pack, he was back for the August meeting having joined the MGCC with a TF. Pride of Ownership was the August theme with some surprised members Eric Batchelor’s MG6 came third with Chris Flanagan’s SV second and Craig Sands TF 1st. A sad start to the month with Alan Dakeyne’s funeral and later in the month the passing of Geoffrey Wilson (99 years) both had been regular supporters of the West Natter.

East – Jill Thornton A wonderful send off of a true gentleman he will be greatly missed. The last of the evening social runs took place on the 31st August, many thanks to Steve and Wendy for organising. One a personal note and a warning to all if you are selling your car,  I was involved in a scam which fortunately I realised before any harm was done. Remember the old adage, if something sounds too good to be true it probably isn’t
